Students of the Faculty of Economics and
Political Science – Cairo University Shine in the Artificial
Intelligence Hackathon, Securing 3 out of the Top 5 Projects in
the Social and Administrative Sciences Sector
In a new achievement added to the Faculty of
Economics and Political Science – Cairo University’s record of
excellence, the faculty’s students succeeded in winning three
out of the top five projects in the Social and Administrative
Sciences sector during the second stage of the “Hackathon for
Sustainable Development,” held at Cairo University in
preparation for the upcoming Artificial Intelligence Conference
(CU-AI Nexus 2025), scheduled for October 18–19.
The three winning projects out of the top
five were:
Tharawat (Tharawat – Oracle AI) team from the
Department of Political Science.
Fundex team from the Department of Economics.
Oracle AI team from the Department of
Political Science.
With this achievement, the Faculty of
Economics and Political Science secured the largest number of
winning projects in this sector, reflecting the outstanding
creativity, innovation, and ability of its students to harness
artificial intelligence in the service of sustainable
development — a testament to the faculty’s distinguished legacy
and leadership in the social sciences.
The faculty extends special thanks to Dr.
Shahinaz Gamal, Lecturer of Social Computing, General Supervisor
of Research, Director of the Digital Transformation and
Artificial Intelligence Unit, and Executive Director of the
Business Incubator, for her great efforts, continuous support,
and encouragement of students to innovate and create — which had
a significant impact on achieving this success.
On this occasion, Prof. Dr. Hanan Mohamed
Ali, Acting Dean of the Faculty, expressed her pride and
appreciation for the students, emphasizing that this
accomplishment reflects their academic excellence and ability to
compete in future-oriented fields. She added that the Faculty of
Economics and Political Science will always remain a beacon of
leadership, academic distinction, and research excellence.
She also expressed her confidence that the
faculty’s students will continue to achieve top ranks in the
final stage of the competition during the upcoming Cairo
University Artificial Intelligence Conference in October.
